In Memory of Dr. David Lunn Miller
David Lunn Miller, 70, of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2021 with his family at his side. He had a lengthy battle with uveal melanoma. Born to the late Rev Allen B. Miller and Elizabeth M. Miller, David is survived by his brothers Stephen (Cynthia) and Michael (Shawn). He was a caring and attentive uncle to niece, Erin and nephew, Jordan (Maddyson) and their two children. David was introduced to the organ at age three while spending time with pastor/father in his church. Throughout his youth in Kansas City, he became known as an accomplished organist. David was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southern Nazarene University, receiving a bachelor's degree in organ performance. He holds a Masters of Music in Church Music (Choral and Organ) from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, and earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. David studied with internationally known teachers Wilma Jensen, Robert Carwithen, and Dr. John Obetz, and pursued additional studies at the National College of Church Music in Herford, Germany, and the Royal School of Church Music in London, England. David was a professor of music and organ at several Nazarene colleges and universities, and worked as a music minister, choir director, teacher, and/or organist throughout his life. David served as the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, AL from 2005 until his retirement in 2018. He devoted his life to the rigorous pursuit of excellence in both choral conducting and organ performance. But we will remember David for his loving, caring spirit. He was a godly, generous person who touched many people. His absence will leave a great void in our lives. A memorial service is scheduled at Huntsville First United Methodist Church on November 14, 2021 with visitation at 2:00 PM and the service following at 3:00 PM. Donations in David's memory may be sent to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation or Huntsville First United Methodist Church.
