In Memory of Linda S. Holladay
Linda Holladay, 67, of Belle Plaine, MN, passed away on Saturday August 3rd, 2019 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was first diagnosed with ocular melanoma in 2014. After successful treatment of the tumor, life returned mostly to normal for the next four years. In August of 2018, during a routine scan, the doctors discovered a spot on her liver. She was eventually diagnosed with metastatic ocular melanoma in her liver. The next 11 months saw many trips to Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN, three separate surgeries, multiple clinical trials, and finally chemotherapy. While these treatments likely prolonged her life, the cancer continued to spread. In July 2019, she was placed in hospice care at her home, where she passed away a few short weeks later.
Linda’s life was defined by her faith in Jesus, which sustained her throughout her battle with cancer. Despite disappointing results from her different treatments, her faith remained strong and helped her to persevere until the end. Her life was a testament to her favorite bible verse found in Philippians 4: 4-7, which reads:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Though her life was shortened by this awful disease, her legacy will live on through her husband, children and grandchildren. Linda was married to her husband, Charles, for 43 years, having met each other at college in Texas. Together, Linda and Charles have four children and eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren. Linda was a big part of her grandchildren’s lives and loved playing with them, reading to them and helping them to explore the world around them. In addition to spending time with her family, Linda also enjoyed playing (and teaching her grandchildren) piano, both for pleasure and for church, arranging flowers in her window baskets and garden, and trying out new, healthy recipes. She was interested in all aspects of people’s lives and made a lasting impact on those around her because of it.
