In Memory of Philip Sorrells
November 17, 1960 - February 14, 2023
On Feb. 14, 2023, Philip Sorrells passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by friends and family. Philip was born in Amherst, TX on November 17, 1960 and grew up in Iraan, TX. After graduating from Texas Tech University in 1983 with a degree in Industrial Engineering, he and his wife, Stacy, moved to Dallas where he worked as an engineer and marketing guru for Texas Instruments, Decibel Products, and most recently Commscope. After retiring, he shifted his focus to an area of great passion to him; helping small and emerging companies grow. He specifically wanted to use his marketing knowledge to help minority and women-owned businesses thrive. Philip was able to spend his free time working on his consulting business, Winding Roads, doing just that!
After his diagnoses with Ocular Melanoma in 2020, Philip focused his time on his family and friends, his church and faith, and writing his blog, also titled “Winding Roads.” Philip used his blog and skills as a public speaker to speak on his faith and how his cancer diagnosis affected him. He bravely shared his fears and what brought him comfort and was able to touch many with his stories. He loved playing games with his family, hanging out with his small grandchildren, cooking and exploring new cuisines, and travelling the world. The only continent he didn’t make it to was Antarctica. Philip had a goofy side that could make anybody laugh, but also a serious side that could find you lost in conversation hours after you planned to go home.
Philip never met a stranger and will be sorely missed by his church community, his loving family, and his friends from all walks of his life. He is survived by his wife, Stacy Sorrells, his daughter, Emily Sorrells, his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Katie Sorrells, and his three amazing grandchildren: Ripley, Rylie and Sebastian Sorrells. He also leaves behind his father, Kermit Sorrells, his brother, David Sorrells, his sister, Sandra Sorrells, as well as many adored cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Denton, TX on Saturday, February 25th at 2 pm with a meal for family at noon. All friends and acquaintances of Philip and his family are welcome to join us in celebration of his full and joyous life. Also, In the full spirit of Philips fun-loving attitude and how much he loved to host parties and get togethers, his children will be hosting a party later this year with his favorite drinks, foods, games, and people! Details will be available at his memorial service or by contacting Emily or Travis Sorrells on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation.
