How to Make a Bequest to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation

The most common method for planned giving is a bequest in a Last Will and Testament.A charitable bequest may be in the form of cash, real estate, securities, or other property. In particular, IRA accounts make ideal charitable bequests.

There are several ways to provide for the Ocular Melanoma Foundation. An unrestricted bequest may be made, or the donor might prefer to designate the specific purpose for which the gift is to be used. An example would be an endowed fund in the donor’s name or in the memory of another or to fund research in a specific area of study.

Outright bequests, whatever the amount, are free from federal estate tax and the inheritance taxes of many states. The resulting tax savings are substantial; in a large estate they may be more than half of the value of the gift to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation.

Charitable bequests may be made by making a new will or by adding a codicil to an existing will. To ensure that the donor’s intentions are carried out as intended, both should be prepared by your personal attorney.
